BioMy name is Lissa; I'm 22. I graduated from Spelman College in 2008 with a degree in psychology, and I'm currently at Columbia University, earning my Ph.D in sociomedical sciences, which is essentially a joint degree in (RESEARCH) psychology and public health.
My research interests are currently using social cognitive theory to understand the ways adolescents construct sexualities and sexual identities, and the way mass media affects adolescent sexual decision-making, stereotyping, and prejudice. I also have a "side interest" in emerging adulthood in the military. I'd like to work for the CDC or another government or military agency when I'm finished with my Ph.D as a research psychologist for national defense and safety, or to teach psychology and do research at a liberal arts college for undergraduates.
I'm engaged to a USAF Airman First Class :D I love him so much, and I'm so proud of his choice to defend the nation! He's stationed close enough to me to visit every weekend, and I absolutely love it.
And I am discovering that I have a real life too :D I like to play video games in my spare (and not-so-spare) time. I own a Wii and a DS. I spend inordinate amounts of time on the Internet, as is evidenced by this LJ. I like to travel, too, and I'm hoping my research and my Air Force man will take me to new places. I like anime, plz give me more. I also love to write, and I used to write fanfiction more frequently until research and graduate school took over my life. I enjoy trying to reclaim part of my life only to later scramble to finish my work on time (i.e. procrastinating).
